We have chosen the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) as the venue for the ICCA Congress 2024, a decision driven by the Centre’s proven leadership in sustainable practices and innovation within the MICE industry.
ADNEC’s efforts to reduce environmental impact align with international standards, specifically ISO 20121:2012, which guides its sustainable event design. The Centre’s recycling systems, energy-efficient LED lighting, and use of biodegradable packaging showcase aunderline its proactive stance on reducing its ecological footprint. These efforts resonate with our own Sustainable Event Management Pillar, which aims to implement a high-performance system to reduce the environmental impact of large events, particularly in emerging markets like the UAE.
Our partnership with ADNEC also aligns with our Social Legacy Pillar, which seeks to cultivate local collaborations. Through ADNEC’s engagement with local stakeholders, we aim to strengthen the business events ecosystem in the UAE, creating a platform for long-term sustainable action. Moreover, ADNEC’s commitment to capacity-building supports our focus on Education and Professional Development. Through targeted training and knowledge-sharing initiatives, we are equipping both participants and suppliers to deliver events that adhere to higher standards of excellence.
Finally, ADNEC’s ongoing efforts in sustainability and innovation reinforce our Innovation and Leadership Pillar, positioning both ADNEC and the ICCA Congress 2024 as forward-thinking pioneers in shaping the future of sustainable events. At the ICCA Congress 2024, we are proud to partner with ne’ma, the UAE’s National Food Loss and Waste Initiative, which aligns with our commitment to sustainability. This partnership enables us to address the issue of food waste by implementing tangible solutions throughout the event. ne’ma, inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision, aims to halve food loss and waste by 2030, advancing social responsibility and food security.
To support this mission, surplus food from the ICCA Congress 2024 will be collected by the Emirates Red Crescent and distributed to those in need, ensuring that minimal food is wasted. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote behavioural change in how we approach food consumption, aligning with ne’ma’s vision of creating a nation where no food is wasted.
Throughout the Congress, we will actively track surplus food donations and food waste as a key performance indicator, ensuring measurable impact in line with our goals. This collaboration showcases our shared commitment to reducing food loss and waste, creating a legacy of sustainability that extends beyond the event itself.
ICCA would like to extend a word of thanks to all the organisations involved in this collaboration. The invaluable contributions of the following partners to the planning, communication, and execution of this important programme are what made it all possible, and we're grateful for their support.
